This time of year more and more people throw on their sneakers and hit the forest trails. Like many, I love the excuse to get outside, and here are some great books and more to share this “natural” inspiration!
Into the Wild – an adult non-fiction by famous climber Jon Krakauer that chronicles the life of a young man, Christopher McCandless, who seeks extreme outdoor adventures across North America.
Parks: Canada’s national parks imagined by Ashley Greene – a sweet children’s picture book by local author/illustrator Ashley Green tells the tale of a girl who uses her imagination to visit Canada’s National Parks.
Wild: from lost to found on the Pacific Crest Trail – Cheryl Strayed sets out for a trek along the Pacific Crest Trail when she feels a need for a new direction in her life. You may also find yourself packing your hiking boots and a backpack at the book’s end.
The Simple Wild by K.A. Tucker – A young urban woman spends time in Alaska while reconnecting with her father and finds herself in an expected romance surrounded by a wilderness. A contemporary romance novel combines with breath-taking outdoor imagery.
Bridge to Terabithia - a classic junior fiction by Katherine Paterson that features a magical moment in time for two new friends who use the forest as a theatre for their imagination. Themes of loss and strength. A heartfelt read for all ages, including kids.
Ed Stafford's ultimate adventure guide: the bucket list for the brave - Looking for a more extreme outdoor adventure? Check out some hot tips and adventurous ideas from Ed Stafford, including parasailing, skydiving, marathons, cycling routes, whitewater rafting, more!
And of course, the Bruce Trail Reference: maps and trail guide is a must-read reference for people looking for local trail adventures along the Niagara Escarpment. Check out other interesting Niagara Escarpment resources online on BiblioBoard, too.
See you on the trails!
